Growing Businesses in Tucson

Tucson business owners are lucky to have the  Arizona economic analysis and Map AZ Dashboard by the  Arizona University of Arizona's Eller School of Business

If you were unable to attend the annual luncheon on December 11, 2015,  here are the slides for the Eller Economic Outlook.

As a business owner or marketer, making sense of all of this data is not an easy task.  Broad economic changes can help in figuring out how to adjust marketing, sales, or finance strategies.

Tucson ranks well above the U.S. average for broadband access

Broadband access is important for economic growth, but also tells us a bit about local consumers.

Broadband consumers in Tucson are probably more likely to:

  • Consume video online
  • Spend more time online
  • Search online for deals and reviews
  • Check email and social networks frequently

Relatively straightforward, right?

Let's take a look at another data point provided by the annual economic outlook.  The third key point from the presentation "Housing Permits Rebound" is filled with economic impact for nearly every business in Tucson.

Three tips about Increased Housing Permits

  1. New homes = new homeowners or upgrade.  This should positively impact sales for major appliances, furniture, and interior decorations, as well as contractors to make necessary improvements.
  2. Homeowners new to the area will need local services including dry cleaners, grocery, schools, and shopping.
  3. New construction is easy to find well before any buys or moves in.  This gives businesses that support new home owners time to plan and budget for advertising campaigns.
